As a part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, Ms. Lorraine Hariton, the Special Representative for Commercial and Business Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, visited Barbados to speak at the Barbados National Entrepreneurship conference. During this visit, Ms. Hariton also met with Marcia Brandon, the Executive Director of the Barbados Youth Business Trust.
The meeting between Ms. Hariton and Ms. Brandon focused on the work of the Barbados Youth Business Trust (BYBT) in Barbados and throughout the region, and plans for the establishment of a regional secretariat and the expansion of youth development work that is so critically needed at this time in the Eastern Caribbean. Charge d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy Dr. Brent Hardt was also present at the meeting, as was Andrea Hillyer, Political-Economic Officer.
Ms. Hariton spoke about the U.S. Department of State’s desire to help build partner communities. She offered some information on a programme called Pathways to Prosperity.
The team at Barbados Youth Business Trust has extensive expertise in youth development and youth entrepreneurship strategies and techniques and have been practicing these for 14 years with tremendous impact. Ms. Hariton congratulated the BYBT for its work and vision and while making no promises, has suggested that future collaboration is quite possible.
